Above the Law
Jan/071
Ok, first let me start off with a disclaimer. I realize that Police officers protect innocent lives, some even give their life to protect others. I realize that not ALL officers do what I am about to speak about below…but it is a saddening fraction that does. Thank you Police officers of the world for your bravery and service. And with that…let’s begin…
What is it with the few officers that feel that they are above the law? I decided to write this because over the past few weeks in my travels I’ve seen a few things that aggravate me to no limit. These officers of the law have been acting above the law. Now, like I said above, I realize often they put their lives out on the limb, but I don’t believe that gives them the option to drive like crazed maniacs.
They are supposed to be “role models” of society. They’re the ones that almost every little kid wants to be like when they grow up. Now, if you are responding to an emergency, it is understood that when the lights go on, the rules go out the window. Understood. But when you need to get through a light just because you don’t want to wait…it doesn’t give you the right to flip on your lights and siren for that brief 5 seconds and then turn them off again.
Also, if you are going to preach to young drivers everywhere that “rolling stops” are not allowed. You have to stop long enough to say “S-T-O-P” and then resume driving. Yeah…tell that to the cop who rolled out of a stop sign so he could get in front of me before I turned left. Classy.
If the number one deterrent against rear-end accidents is ACD (assured clear distance) then why, Mr. Indy cop, were you tailgating every single driver in your lane until they moved out of your way?
And as for all those officers who drive faster than the given speed limit…do you realize it just makes me think that I can do it too? Yet…driving over the speed limit is not allowed and you’ll give US a ticket for it?
I am seriously thinking about using my rights as a citizen to perform citizens’ arrest on some of these officers. It’s getting really absurd. All they are doing is creating that “forbidden fruit” for other drivers. If they see cops acting like idiots while driving…they want to as well. And don’t give me that “do what I say, and not as I do” bullcrap…this is ridiculous.
Enough venting…
